110526-160759I have always been interested in running my own business and all aspects of the online / IT world. I achieved my goal of running my own business and we have been trading for a few years now and achieved a good customer base and a customer retention that is very impressive.

I started out life, after university (BSC Sport Science) as a project manager for a major IT implementation at Portsmouth City Council. This job taught me a lot about budgets, timescales and managing resource, it was a little tricky as the public sector isn’t as ‘driven’ as the private sector, but it was still enjoyable and valuable experience.

I was given the opportunity to join a successful SEO company, again in Portsmouth, they are pretty big now but when I joined them there were three full time SEO’s. It was whilst I cut my teeth as an SEO that I realised a great deal about the industry and, if I was going to run my own internet marketing company, what to do and what not to do.

Ultimately there are many companies that tout SEO / online marketing as a dark art, but ultimately it is very straight forward and uses the basic marketing principles that have been used since the dawn of business, the difference is the channels that are used. Online marketing is about hard work, patience, using numerous channels and opportunities and above all a good understanding of your market.

I wanted to make Gorilla Digital (and SEO Clinic) about honesty, integrity and transparency, we didn’t want to trade on fear of the unknown and any campaign becomes much more viable if the customer understands what you are doing and why, they can contribute much more readily in that scenario.
